Karnataka officially became the first state in the country to implement National Education Policy (NEP- 2020)

Launched NEP helpline and launch of admission as per NEP-2020 in the Higher Education Institutions through the launch of ‘Admission Module UUCMS (Unified University & College Management System)”. Helpline Number is 080- 24486666.

As part of the Internationalisation of Higher Education, an MoU between Montgomery Community College, Pensylvania, USA and the Department of Technical Education was signed for a twin degree course.

Bengaluru, NFAPost: Union Minister for Education, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan launched the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP- 2020) in Karnataka.

After the inauguration, Karnataka officially became the first state in the country to implement National Education Policy (NEP- 2020). Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated the NEP – 2020 programme at an virtual event in the presence of Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai, Karnataka Minister of IT, BT and Higher Education Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Narayana.

Speaking at the event, Dharmendra Pradhan said Karnataka has set an ideal example to other states of the country in going forward pertaining to implementation of the NEP-2020.

“Karnataka has taken a lead role and has become a laboratory in implementation of NEP. India has a huge number of about 310 million who belong to the student community (1st standard to Higher education) and with 25 million being newly added every year, the real challenge lies in making reach the benefits of NEP to all these. The success of NEP will enable creating a new global order,” said Dharmendra Pradhan.

To mark this historic occasion, Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai, who launched Admission Module as per NEP-2020, announced that New Digitalization and Research & Development policy focusing on students will be rolled out and Primary & Secondary Education Council will be established with the objective of transforming and empowering knowledge landscape of the state of Karnataka.

“These policies and programs will be given due preference in the coming budget amidst constraints. I also want the government to introduce career guidance and personality development at the secondary education level to realise the goal of creating an equitable society,” said Basavaraja Bommai.

Terming this as historic and day of liberation, organised at the Banquet Hall in Vidhana Soudha on Monday, Basavaraja Bommai said if implemented successfully the new policy would free the education system from vertical silos, compartmentalisation and closed jacket structure of the teaching-learning process.

Basavaraja Bommai said the world has transcended from knowledge to science, science to technology and technology to digital technology, in that order and those who make of digitalization will be successful. “Under the new digitization policy, broadband network connectivity will be facilitated to all the villages of the state to facilitate successful implementation of NEP,” said Basavaraja Bommai.

The Karnataka Chief Minister also announced that Tablet PCs will be given this year also for those joining the first-year degree courses.

“Ordinary politicians will not attempt and aspire for revolutionary changes. But statesman-like Prime Minister Narendra Modi will venture to bring in transformations in the society. The NEP-2020 is the result of forethought of the Prime Minister to empower new generation to be globally competitive,” said Basavaraja Bommai.

Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Narayana who unveiled the MoU of Internationalisation of Higher Education said the NEP will break the barriers and brings together Science-Arts-Humanities, Curricular-Extra Curricular, Theoretical Knowledge-Skill Development etc.

“The policy which has been introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after 34 years, has been drafted after wider consultations and considering more than 3 lakh suggestions. The Vice-Chancellors will have to play a crucial role in its’ effective implementation,” said Dr.C.N.Ashwatha Narayana.

As part of the Internationalisation of Higher Education, an MoU between Montgomery Community College, Pensylvania, USA and the Department of Technical Education was signed for a twin degree course.

To begin with, 62 students who study Diploma in Cyber Security will be benefitted by this MoU. This facilitates awarding twin degrees to students. While the state government awards a Diploma Certificate, the Montgomery College, US would award Associate Degree.

B C Nagesh, Minister of Primary & Secondary education spoke on the occasion. As part of the event, Dr.K.Kasturirangan, who was the chairperson of the NEP drafting committee, Dr.M.K.Sridhar, Dr.T.V.Kattimani who were members of the committee and Dr.Anuraga Behar, member of the implementation committee were felicitated.

On the occassion, Likitha, a student who is joining degree this year, Assistant Professor Sathish HK, and Prof.Sharanappa Halase, Vice-Chancellor, Davanagere University shared their opinions about the NEP.

G.Kumara Naik, ACS, Dept. of Higher Education, made introductory remarks. Pradeep P, Commissioner, Department of collegiate education made a video presentation on NEP.

Dr.Gopalakrishna Joshi, Prof.B.Thimmegowda, Vice-Chairman, State Higher Education Council, Umashankar, Principal Secretary, Dept. of Primary & Secondary Education were present.
