Bengaluru, NFAPost: Bengaluru, the Garden City of India, has emerged as the most liveable among 111 cities in the country, according to the Union Government Ease of Living Index released by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

Acknowledging Bengaluru’s accomplishments, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa recently tweeted:

“Bengaluru has emerged as the most liveable city in India in the Ease of Living Survey conducted by MoHUA_India. The Bengaluru model of development of citizen-centric initiatives and delivery of services have ensured the top ranking of #Bengaluru.”

As The News Minute reports, the Ease of Living Index has been evaluated based on a set parameters such as quality of life, sustainability, economic stability and 14 other categories, including 30% weightage to citizen perception survey. The survey assessment enables the local residents to share their views and provide feedback on services offered by the local civic administration.

The city rankings were computed after segregating them into two broad categories: cities with million+ population and those with less than a million.

The EOLI assessment was conducted in 111 participating cities whose quality of life was evaluated alongside the impact of various initiatives undertaken by the local urban development.

Bengaluru emerged as the most liveable city with a score of 66.70 and barely toppled Pune as the latter came a close second at 66.27. Ahmedabad secured the third place at 64.87 while Chennai finished fourth with a score of 62.61.

In contrast, Bengaluru took the 31st place in the Municipal Performance Index wherein Indore secured the top position for excelling at various parameters such as urban governance, town planning, road maintenance and other public services.

Such metric of indices enable the government to assess cities based on their capabilities to employ better quality of life, create good infrastructure while also addressing various challenges of urbanisation, the release added.
