Four-time champions, Mumbai Indians has struck a sponsorship deal with DHL Express.

The shipping and courier delivery company has joined Mumbai Indians as the principal sponsor.

“Globally, DHL supports some of the world’s largest and most popular sports formats – from football to rugby, Formula One and even esports. Today marks our foray into another crowd favorite: T20 Cricket,” company senior VP and Managing Director RS Subramanian said.

Mumbai Indian players will now display the logo of DHL on the back of their jerseys. Earlier, Colors TV was displayed on the back of their jerseys.

Displaying brand names on the back of the jersey approximately costs around Rs 8 to 10 crore, industry pundits say.

Though the franchise was agnostic to the slowdown in the sponsorship space and investment in sports due to the coronavirus outbreak, it added four global brands in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The global brands are – Marriott Bonvoy, Colgate, Cadbury Dairy Milk and William Lawson’s, for multi-year deals.

Mumbai Indians had signed a three years deal with Marriott Bonvoy in 2020. In 2019, it struck deal with Samsung as its lead sponsor for three years in a deal worth Rs 75 crore.

Last year, the franchise became the first team to generate Rs 100 crore in sponsorship revenues.

The five-time winners last year had registered the highest brand value.
