Bengaluru, NFAPost: Participating in a fireside chat at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2020 on Saturday, Supriya Dhanda, India Country Manager, Western Digital India said it is necessary to keep the work going in an unprecedented crisis such as this and to find acceptance among all.

A leader has to compete, get ahead with the initiatives and deliver what is expected while also engaging with all the others working together in a learning environment, she said.Amit Kalra, Managing Director, Swiss Re, said while the current situation is a leveler, it is of a multi-dimensional proportion and a complicated one.

He said safety of employees and their well-being is of paramount importance. He said the pandemic has resulted in limited flow of information with limited decision-taking abilities as the situation is hit with a lot of unknowns.

Kalra said the leader of tomorrow will be characterized by genuine care and connect with the employees. He said ironically European countries are not prepared to lead the team virtually.

But, it has become necessary to engage with the people, drive innovation, set up own schedules for the staff in an outcome-based work environment.

The need to be flexible, inclusive and fun engagement with culture and collaboration is what will redefine a leader in the post-pandemic era.

Dhanda said the leader’s role is to ensure value for life and people first with a communication strategy that is critical for a successful work life.

She said women have been further forced to handle multiple roles even as the roles of the managers are seeing a change in this period.
